Episode #80 - Mini Kapur

This episode was recorded on October 29th, 2025 in the art gallery
Under The Mango Tree in Berlin (Schöneberg).

Name: Mini Kapur, @under.the.mango.tree
Topics: art, running a gallery, graphic design, entrepreneurship, India, Berlin
Landed in Berlin: 12.02.1990

In February 2025, when Adeline Meilliez (#68) exhibited her work at Under the Mango Tree in Berlin-Schöneberg, I stepped into what instantly felt like a very special place. Welcomed with grace and generosity by Mini Kapur, the founder and creative director, I discovered a woman whose love for art radiates through every corner of her gallery — a space she has shaped into a gentle home for connection, creativity, and conversation.

From her arrival in Berlin in the early ’90s to her journey of building a gallery that bridges cultures and generations, Mini’s story is one of vision, persistence, and deep humanity. I’m thrilled to share this inspiring exchange about what it truly means to hold space for others through art.

Enjoy listening! 🎧

Notes from episode #80

After studying at the College of Art in New Delhi, Mini Kapur began her career as a designer, running her own successful studio before a new chapter called her to Berlin in the early 1990s. What started as a simple idea — a seed planted by a friend — grew into Under The Mango Tree, an art gallery dedicated to emerging artists and those yet to be seen in the city.

Driven by an inner sense of purpose and a belief in investing in oneself, Mini has shaped a space that goes far beyond exhibitions. Through her carefully curated shows, Six Spices dinners, intimate concerts and creative workshops, she continues to explore new ways of bringing people together, to share, to learn, and to feel at home.

As Mini beautifully says: “You can never replace your home, but this is my connection to India — in its spirit, and in everything I do.”

More about the guest

Date of your arrival in Berlin: 12.02.1990

Why did you came to Berlin? Just packed my bags to join my husband.

What do you like the most about Berlin? Internationality.

What bothers you the most? The cold weather. And the grey sky.

What are your 3 favorite places in Berlin?

  • Krumme Lanke for Walks
  • Renger-Patsch for great Flamm-Kuchen
  • The homes of some dear friends who are an extension of my family.

What is the most Berlin-like thing about you? Direct & undiplomatic. Trying to relearn the Indian gentle and clever approach.:-))

Your recipe for a successful integration? Acceptance of the other. The question is who is the « other » now. Language is a must.

Your recipe for homesickness? Meet and talk. Invest in friendships.

Who would you like to hear on the podcast? Hybrid perspectives. Broader visions.

For which reasons should we contact you?

  • Investing in art;
  • Organising a private or a professional event at Under the Mango Tree;
  • if you are looking for exceptionally good handwork on textiles/ books from India.

Do you want to add anything? Berlin can at times make you feel lonely; specially those who left their homelands. Do not sit alone at home. Be open to explore this city, do not let anyone or anything crush you. Just be.Yourself. Believe in good. It will come.
